A Powerful Friend!

Tomorrow, May 31, is the Solemnity of Pentecost, the great feast of God’s Love! Recall the prayer: “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in us the fire of your love! Send forth your spirit and we shall be re-created and You shall renew the face of the earth!"

For years I went through life not having a clue as to the importance of the Holy Spirit in my life. But then the all-Merciful Father called me into a deeper relationship with Him and I discovered in a new way the role of the Holy Spirit and the power of his Presence in my life.

At the time a friend offered this wonderful analogy: Going through life without depending on the action of this Third Person of the Holy Trinity is like driving a car with four flat tires. Can you picture it? The ride would be pretty bumpy! The Holy Spirit is the air in our spiritual tires – He is the wind in our spiritual sails!

At World Youth Day in Sydney Pope Benedict spoke in great depth about the role of the Holy Spirit. He told the young people gathered there: “Accept into your hearts and minds the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit! Recognize and believe in the power of the Spirit in your lives!... This is the Spirit’s role: to bring Christ’s work to fulfillment. Enriched with the Spirit’s gifts, you will have the power to move beyond the piecemeal, the hollow utopia, the fleeting, to offer the consistency and certainty of Christian witness!”

Father Thomas Rosica offers this wonderful reflection on the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to click on this link, print it out and reflect on it today: http://www.zenit.org/article-26015?l=english Listen attentively to the readings at Mass today. Truly celebrate the Solemnity! And don’t go one more day without surrendering your heart to the guidance of the Holy Spirit! Life will never be the same!
