She goes before us!

"Being the most glorious Mother of Christ our saviour and our God, the giver of life and immortality, she is given life by him and shares bodily incorruptibility for all eternity with him who raised her from the grave and drew her up to him in a way that only he can understand." (by an ancient writer - Liturgy of the Hours)

Today is the glorious solemnity of the Assumption - the feast that celebrates the truth that our Blessed Mother, at the time of her death, fell asleep and was taken body and soul into Heaven. There she reigns as Queen of Heaven (feast August 22) and waits to embrace us there. (Seehttp://www.ewtn.com/library/papaldoc/p12munif.htm

"Mary's lithe, liberating passage from this world reminds us that God's graceful love is at work and available to us in the hour of our death, if we live in a manner that refelects our total dependency on God." (Father William M. Joensen in the Magnificat Rosary Companion)

What does this mean for us? Mary was free from Original Sin and therefore she did not experience bodily corruption. We, on the other hand, because we were born with Original Sin will experience bodily corruption. BUT at the end of time, if we have died in the state of grace, our bodies will be resurrected, freed from all deformity and disease, and reunited with our souls to live for all eternity with the Triune God.
