The Catholic Church has been known over the years as “holy
mother Church”. She nourishes her
children with the Body and Blood of her Savior, Jesus Christ; with the Words of
Sacred Scripture, with graces that flow from the Sacraments, with the teachings
of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church.
She keeps us on course through the guidance of the Magisterium – our Holy
Father, the Bishops. And she never,
never ceases to care for us, urging us to be faithful to our Holy Triune God,
providing ways for us to grow in our spiritual life.
One such example is the Year of Faith proclaimed by
Pope Benedict XV16 which extends from October 11, 2012 to November 24, 2013.
(see http://www.annusfidei.va/content/novaevangelizatio/en.html) In his Apostolic Letter “Porta Fidei”, which
put forth the reasons and plans for the year, the Holy Father drew attention to
the fact that the world is losing its faith in God and it is in dire need of
evangelization. http://www.annusfidei.va/content/novaevangelizatio/en/benedetto-xvi/lettera-apostolica--porta-fidei-.html
There is so much on the internet, in solid Catholic
publications etc about this very special gift of time that Holy Mother Church
is giving us to renew our very own gift of faith, to grow in the
knowledge of our Catholic faith, and to share our knowledge and love of
God with others who were baptized but who were never really
catechized and/or who have drifted away from the church. (see some related web sites: http://www.vatican.va/special/annus_fidei/index_en.htm and http://catholic-year-of-faith.com/?p=878
Our Sisters are taking this year very seriously. Each Sunday we are studying excerpts from the Catechism of The Catholic Church in order to refesh our understanding of the tenants of our faith.
(Typing with a broken arm is challenging but perhaps I can share some additional thoughts later!)
Meanwhile, let us thank God for the gift our Catholic Faith!
