A site to behold

Today is one of my favorite feast days ~ the Memorial of the North American Martyrs, Jesuit priests who were killed by the Huron Indians in northern New York State while attempting to convert their hearts to Jesus Christ. St. John de Breubeuf and St. Issac Jogues who were priests and their companions labored many years to bring the Catholic Faith to the pagan Indian tribes, all at the cost of their lives. Some years ago I had the great privilege of visiting their shrine in Auriesville, New York and to walk along the ravine where some of them gave their lives.

Here is a link to their story. It is lengthy but well worth printing out and reading. http://catholicism.org/eight-na-martyrs.html

And here is a link to the Auriesville Shrine. http://www.martyrshrine.org/pages/saints-of-auriesville.html St. Kateri Tekawitha was born near Auriesville several years after the missionaries were martyred. The shrine is well worth a visit. In our country it is not often we get the opportunity to visit the actual site where some of our brothers were martyred for their faith.
