Sadly we never change

Today as I was going through my personal things in preparation for moving and I found the following thoughts of Abraham Lincon written in 1863.  If I remember correctly, he wrote them as he proclaimed a National Day of Prayer.  I wanted to share them with you.  Nothing has changed.  We could change the date from 1863 to 2012.

"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and propserity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown.  But we have forgotten God.  We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our heart, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.  Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and perserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us."

Let us pray for our Country that our fellow citizens will see their need for God.  My own prayer, "God have mercy on our country."
