May the angels lead you into Paradise

Today is one of my favorite feast days – the Memorial of the Guardian Angels. It is also the anniversary of my Baptism and in our community, as I have mentioned in the past, we celebrate it in a special way. I am so grateful that my parents took me to the waters of Baptism and on such a wonderful feast.

St. Bernard of Clairvaux, in a homily in today’s Office of Readings talks about the power of guardian angels to protect us and care for us. He encourages us to be devoted and grateful to them for their protection which should give us great confidence. Our Guardian Angels are here to serve us; they love us. Did you ever realize that?! Of course they do - they come from God and God is love and it is because God loves us that He has given us a guardian angel!   And we are called to love them in return.   What was more surprising to me was to learn that our angels will be co-heirs with us in Heaven!
St. Bernard writes: "Even though we are children and have a long, a very long and dangerous way to go, with such protectors what have we to fear? They who keep us in all our ways cannot be overpowered or led astray, much less lead us astray. They are loyal, prudent, powerful. Why then are we afraid? We have only to follow them, stay close to them, and we shall dwell under the protection of God’s heaven."
The Catechism of the Catholic Church speaks about our guardian angels in sections 334-336. See: http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p1s2c1p5.htm#I   Many of the saints had a relationship with their Guardian Angel; St. Pio of Pietrelcina spoke to his angel frequently.  We too can speak with our Angel, asking for guidance, for inspiration. What a great, great friend!
